Our Client is a specialized product fabrication and installation company serving the Ottawa area for over 60 years, with a reputation for outstanding product value and customer service. Due to recent growth, and an eye towards succession planning, this fantastic east end, family run organization, spanning 100+ employees, is in development mode. With expansion into the US, our client is a complex manufacturer and distributor of a unique product that crosses global borders. Joining their current HR Manager, our client is looking for an HR Generalist who can help share the team and organization for years to come.
As the Human Resources Generalist will play an essential role within the small HR department by helping to support the day-to-day operations within the team. You will have your hand on all areas of compliance to employment law, supporting the HR strategy, assisting with performance management and HR policy development and implementation. Working with the Manager, you will ensure the HR service deliver is seamless, and promote employee engagement and structure to contribute to organizational goals. The HR Generalist will be a multi-faceted role that will include the following responsibilities:
Recruitment
- Oversee the full recruitment cycle from job posting to offer negotiations
- Assist managers with understand their requirements and creating job descriptions
- Coordinate all orientations, onboarding and offboarding of employees
- Maintain a network with recruiting vendors, academic associations, and institutions to access top talent for organization
Employee Engagement
- Act as the main point of contact for employee inquiries relating to HR matters
- Assist managers in facilitating conflict resolution and disciplinary discussions
- Help develop HR programs and initiatives to promote and inclusive and positive culture
- Design and administer employee surveys and communication tools
Performance Management
- Implement performance evaluation metrics and tools for managers
- Assist managers in addressing performance relation issues, and establish performance improvement plans
- Create and coordinate training and development programs to foster growth & development
HR Policy
- Collaborate with manager to develop, implement and communicate HR policies, training and development from onboarding and beyond
- Ensure all policies are compliance with ESA requirements and regulations
- Maintain employee records
Compensation & Benefits
- Administer and oversee the employee benefit program and act as point of contact between providers and employees
- Support payroll in any matters relating to benefits, or compensation adjustments
Health & Safety
- Support the H&S committee and ensure compliance with Occupational Health and Safety regulations
- Participate in ad hoc workplace safety training and inspections
Administration
- Track employee attendance, absences, and LOAs
- Prepare and analyze HR metrics to support decision making of stakeholders
- Make recommendations to improve HR delivery, or enhance communications with staff
- Ensure confidentiality of all employee files and matters
The ideal candidate for this HR Generalist role will have 3-4 years of comprehensive experience in various HR functions, reflecting a solid progression from HR Administrator to Generalist. Your background should include post-secondary education in Human Resources or Business Administration, coupled with ongoing pursuit of the CHRP designation. A background in the manufacturing sector is highly desirable, as it aligns with the needs of our client. Familiarity with the Ontario Employment Standards Act is crucial, and you should adeptly combine this technical knowledge with strong emotional intelligence. Exceptional communication skills are essential for engaging effectively with everyone from senior leadership to plant floor employees. You should exhibit a problem-solving mindset and entrepreneurial spirit, capable of handling challenging and confidential situations with professionalism and discretion. The role demands a detail-oriented individual who is also highly organized, capable of executing directions independently while being an approachable and collaborative team player. Proficiency in computer applications, adaptability, and a commitment to fostering a strong corporate culture through physical presence and approachability are key attributes for success in this position.
