Brookfield has recently been granted a large project to build two large battery storage facilities within the Greater Ottawa area. As a result, the organization is looking for highly motivated Engineers to join the team and have an impact on exciting renewable projects launching within Ontario.

We are seeking a dynamic Senior Project Manager – Construction to collaborate with our Project Director on a ground-breaking battery storage project just west of Ottawa. This role is critical in steering the project from initial development through to the handover of operations in 2027. You will be at the forefront of ensuring the project’s success, overseeing every phase from planning to on-site execution and commissioning.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leadership – Take charge of the on-site delivery of Canada’s largest battery energy storage project. Serve as the primary point of contact, ensuring seamless project management until the final handover in 2027.
- Health & Safety – Uphold and enforce all Health, Safety, Environmental (HSE), and Social & Governance (ESG) standards. Cultivate a strong culture of safety and compliance across all project activities.
- Project Management – Oversee all facets of the project, including HSE, procurement, permitting, scheduling, and contract management. Ensure adherence to codes, standards, best practices, and timelines, while meeting budgetary commitments.
- Procurement – Coordinate with internal teams to manage procurement for Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC), Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM), and major components. Drive value and mitigate risks through strategic procurement efforts.
- Technical Oversight – Lead design reviews and maintain rigorous quality assurance and compliance standards throughout each project phase. Collaborate closely with your engineering team to monitor and uphold project quality and control measures.
- Permitting and Regulatory Compliance – Obtain all necessary permits and ensure ongoing compliance with regulatory requirements for the project build.
- Team Management – Supervise and mentor a team of project engineers and coordinators. Enhance project capabilities by integrating external consultants when needed.
The ideal candidate for the Project Manager role will combine a proactive, entrepreneurial mindset with a deep passion for renewable energy initiatives, especially in battery storage technology. Holding a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering is essential, while additional certifications in project management or business, such as PMP or an MBA, would be advantageous. With at least 10 years of experience in construction project management, you will have demonstrated expertise in managing large-scale projects, ideally within the power sector, including renewables, high voltage (HV) systems, substations, and transmission lines. Experience working on projects valued at $50 million or more, with a proven track record of delivering on time and within budget, is crucial.
Familiarity with the Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) and the intricacies of connecting new assets to the grid will be highly beneficial. You should possess in-depth knowledge of Ontario’s Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) regulations, as well as legal agreements and contract requirements pertinent to construction projects in this region.
Your project management prowess will be key in handling budgeting, scheduling, and stakeholder reporting. Outstanding communication and organizational skills are required to effectively engage with stakeholders, including landowners, First Nations, and community members, addressing their priorities and concerns.
