Our client is a political organization in Ottawa representing a community of Indigenous people throughout Canada and is currently seeking a Financial Analyst to join their team on a permanent basis. Under the supervision of the Senior Finance Officer, the Financial Analyst will oversee financial planning, budget development, and expenditure monitoring. In this role, you will be involved with providing insightful financial information to aid management in making sound business decisions, and ensuring compliance with our client’s accounting policies and procedures.

As the Financial Analyst, you will play a critical role in budget planning, financial analysis, and stakeholder communication within the organization. By aligning resources with organizational priorities and monitoring expenditures, you will support financial stability and informed decision-making. Additionally, you will be contributing to the Finance team’s operations, providing regular updates on budgetary status and financial performance, requiring attention to detail, a strong grasp of financial processes, and effective communication skills to maintain high standards of financial accountability.
Key Responsibilities include:
  • Develop annual budgets, review budget proposals and align budget allocations with organizational priorities and strategic goals. Communicate budgetary guidelines and procedures to staff.
  • Monitor expenditures against budgets and identify variances, and forecast future financial needs.
  • Conduct financial analyses to assess organizational financial health.
  • Prepare and present financial reports to the Senior Finance Officer.
  • Provide insights to improve budget management and cost-effectiveness.
  • Monitor grant expenditures and prepare reports for grantors – ensuring compliance with grant requirements
  • Analyze cash flow trends and forecast cash flow requirements and ensure funds availability.
  • Ensure compliance with financial regulations and policies.
  • Stay updated on financial regulations and reporting requirements.
  • Implement internal controls to safeguard assets and mitigate risks.
  • Liaise with external auditors, regulatory agencies, and funding partners.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline budgeting processes.
  • Implement technological solutions for budgeting and reporting automation.
  • Certificate in Accounting or Bookkeeping and/or 5+ years of relevant experience in budget planning, financial analysis, and grant management.
  • Proficiency with accounting software like QuickBooks Online or Sage.
  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work collaboratively or independently as needed.
  • Excellent organizational, multi-tasking, time-management, and problem-solving skills
  • Flexibility and responsive to changing needs and circumstances.
  • Strong MS Excel skills for generating and maintaining accurate spreadsheets.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills for clear interactions with suppliers, service providers, and stakeholders.
  • A CPA or CMA Certification in an asset
